PENS

PENS is a new breakthrough for pain treatment approved by NICE in UK and aims to control neuropathic pain (a type of pain associated with damage to peripheral nerves, usually felt as numbing, tingling, shooting, or burning pain). The procedure is similar to TENS, but involves the insertion of electrode needles underneath the skin. Once the needles are inserted they are connected to a stimulator device with appropriate settings.
